Veolia Environmental Services participated in environmental project "Darom 2010"
Environmental project "Darom 2010" is a project successive to "Darom 2008" and "Darom 2009" projects. The project's main goal is to promote ecological thinking and social awareness among Lithuanian population, strengthen local communities, raise public competence in waste sorting, as well as preserve nature and make surroundings cleaner.
An idea for "Darom" firstly originated with a group of Estonian volunteers. Back in 2008 these Estonians volunteers succeeded in bringing together a group of more than 50,000 volunteers, which in one day managed to collect as much as 10,000 tons of solid waste (200 kg per person) throughout various forests and fields in Estonia. Later the same year a couple of thousands of volunteers in response to the Estonian action gathered for a similar nature cleaning action in Lithuania. In 2009 already as much as 70,000 volunteers joined the "Darom 2009" action in Lithuania. While in 2010 the number of Lithuanian participants exceeded 100,000, and these volunteers were collecting waste in more than 1,000 different locations throughout the whole country during the action; as the outcome some 15,000 tons of various solid waste in total was collected that year.
Veolia Environmental Services Lietuva is a participant and a partner of "Darom" environmental project. In April 17th, 2010, Veolia's transport collected waste from pre-arranged waste gathering points in Kaunas, as well as took collected waste out from those points free of any charge.
In August 2010 for the second time International Baltic Sea Cleaning action took place. It's goal - cleaner Baltic Sea and Baltic coasts.
